To sterilize and stabilize your wine.
Campden tablets are used to sterilize and stabilize wine, and they are consisting of Sodium Metabisulphite.
They are mainly used in the manufacture of wine, cider and beer to kill bacteria and inhibit the growth of wild yeasts.
Campden tablets can also be used to remove free chlorine and chloramine from aqueous solutions.
Campden tablets can also be used as an antioxidant agent when transferring wine between containers.
The sodium metabisulphite contained in Campden tablets traps oxygen that enters the wine, preventing it from harming.
Dosage: One crushed Campden tablet per 5 liters of wort. This dosage will contribute to 67 ppm of sulphur dioxide per wort. The level of active sulfur dioxide decreases rapidly because it reacts with chlorine, chloramine and aldehydes (especially in wine). The concentration of free sulfur dioxide is significantly decreased during the aging process and is therefore negligible at the time of consumption of beer or wine.
